I've been in the mood for some more exotic activity, so I bought tickets to fly out to Los Angeles in a few weeks for the Tease-o-rama Burlesque event. ( http://www.teaseorama.com )

Will anybody else from Tiki Central be attending? I will be arriving Thursday,Oct. 9 and departing the following Tuesday. I'm hoping to visit Tiki Ti, Oceanic Arts, and a few other places, if time allows.

It's such a bummer living in the UK. Man, I am soooo going to that next year when I'm in the states. And my girlfriend will love it.

You cats on the West Coast are so lucky, having this on your doorstep.

Theres a few tiki central members that go to this event every year. I've flown out to New Orleans and to San Fran for it so there is no way I'm going to miss it now that it's in my own back yard in LA. I think allot of the So-Cal TCers will try to make this event. Mig is always involved with the event so he'll be in town for it.

A

I'll be there on Saturday with a few non-TCers.
A

I couldn't afford to go to the the last two, but this year I'll be there with Lady V. I can't miss this one. We will be there on Friday.

A

Al and I are in on Sat. eve. as well. We will probably be there on Sat. and maybe Sunday... Can't wait! -Shell in the Pacific

Do you have to purchase the 3-day pass to be able to be able to participate in the daytime activities? If you purchase only a 1 day pass, are you only allowed to go at 7:00 p.m.? Anyone know?

I

My interpretation ...

One does not need to purchase a one-day show ticket in order to take part in the daytime workshops. If you only wanted to attend one or more of the workshops, but not any of the evening shows, you would be able to do so, and only have to pay for the individual workshops.

The one day passes are only for the evening performances, and do not include the daytime workshops.

Tickets for the individual workshops are sold on a first come/ first served basis on the day of the workshop. I don't think there are any actual physical tickets for the workshops, just a person at the door collecting money as people come in.

P

I'm in for Saturday. Sunday is otherwise spoken for and I doubt I can get out of work for Friday.

I really hope that's how it works because some of those the daytime activities, look pretty interesting to say the least. A day to pick up a few more skills.

I

Well, since I don't know what several of you look like (except for Al and Shelly).... if any of you see a guy who looks like the one in the red jacket on this page ...
http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic=2253&forum=1&start=45

feel free to come on up so I can give you a proper tiki central hello. Unfortunately, I probably won't be wearing that red jacket, nor have a smoking eruption in hand.

Vern

M

Try to catch my pal Danny Shorago (singer from Casino Royale) while you're at Tease-O-Rama. He'll be fronting a side project of his that plays at the VIP room on Saturday and Sunday night.

Cheekygirl is right! So many great classes/activities during the day! I especially would love to attend the tassle twirling class! I'm sure there would be much talent to be gandered upon! But alas.....it sez it's only for women. Maybe if I got a facial and had all my back/leg hair removed........ :)

Hey! I just noticed!! A queer striptease class! No.......uhh, uhh boyfriend. We not goin there :)

I will DEFINITELY be there, the full time. I think that you can still go to the convention/daytime activities no matter what, it just might be a dollar or two more expensive.

My alter-ego, the infamous GORILLA X, will be performing many times. With SF Famous Burlesque, Dane's Dames, and also probably with Dirty Martini and maybe the Fisherman. I'll be all over, careening around annoying everybody. In costume, I have bleached hair and sideburns. Out of costume, I look like a gorilla. So find me and say "hey, I'm in TC!"

Well, I'm in for Saturday. I will be attending some of the daytime "work shops". If any TC women are planning to take the "twirling" class, please e-mail me, so we can meet up. I checked out a couple of places that sell tassels around my neighborhood and the selection is poor and the quality low. Purchasing the Twirly Girl tassels are a must. Unfortuntely, I did not order mine in time and hafta to make do with some ugly cheapo-ones that are too small. I may just pin them to a t-shirt cause I'm shy. (Okay, I can hear ya'll laughing).

H

Cheeky, I would bet that the Twirly Girl girl will be there, you may be able to buy them during the event. I got mine from her at a show up here in Seattle, and they are deeee-luxe!

Man, I wish I could be there!

Humuhumu, I figured they would probably be available at the event, but being a rather thrifty girl, okay...cheap, I was trying to avoid the inevitable mark-up. The ones I wanted were $27.95, the chintzy ones I purchased were $12.95--I think I was being pennywise and dollar foolish.

And don't fret, you'll be in the company of us So. Cal. Hoiti Toiti's soon!

just got back from teaseorama, wish there was a way to meet up with some of you. the ms. and i had a blast this evening, and will be back for the rest of the weekend.

don't know if any of you will check in at tikicentral again before heading to teaseorama today, but the ms. and i will probably stop by tiki ti early before the show. if you go to tiki ti this evening, look behind the bar. We (`Ona Tiki) gave mike and mike one of the Zombie (moai) mugs from our test fire.
if you have not been to tiki ti, its about five minutes from teaseorama. take any street from hollywood blvd, heading east, make a right down to sunset, make a left. in a few blocks sunset will start to curve toward your right, after it curves, keep your eyes to the left. if you hit fountain, you have passed it.
maybe we will bump into one of you there.

Well, we did it. We sat through all 5 hours and 45 minutes of Saturday night's show. I loved the improvisational skills of our host Kitten on the Keys. She was one of the most entertaining parts of the show. Aside from my usual favorites like Ginger Goldmine, the Pontani Sisters and Dirty Martini, I also really liked an act I'd never seen before: The Lavender Cabaret. They were one of the most professional, tightly-rehearsed dance/striptease acts I have ever seen live.

Oh, and I can't forget the Wau Wau Sisters. If you left before the end of the show, you really missed something. I'm talking about acrobatic, Catholic school girls doing a lesbian striptease to Nightranger's "Sister Christian".

On the down side, Catherine D'lish was not quite up to par with her performance. In fact, she seemed a bit out of sorts.....REALLY out of sorts. And although I understand the desire to have some Halloween themed acts, I just couldn't quite get into the group from Denver, "Burlesque As It Was". Something about watching an amputee strip (fake or not) just wasn't that entertaining.

Anyway, here's the few shots I did get. Sorry about the blurriness on some of them. Oh, and don't forget to take a close look at the last 2 pics. Anyone from Mondo Tiki recognize them? Baxdog....Iuka Grogg....anyone?

We had a great time. I totally agree with most of your comments VG. The Lavender Cabaret put on an awesome show! When the Burlesque as it was group started it seemd kind of neat and weird. By the time we got to the amputee removing limbs; all appeal had been lost. I think if it had been done in a different manner it might have worked in a camp sort of way.

Sadly, we had to leave a little early and so missed the second Wau Wau Sisters set. How was Dita?

(Edited by the Patriot Act)

[ Edited by: Andrew on 2003-10-14 11:53 ]

Dita was her usual ultra-glamorous self with even more fancy props, in fact, an entire set of pink and silver-glittered furniture resembling a boudoir. (Can't help but wonder if Manson is helping to foot that bill.) She entered as if just coming home from an evening out in a spectacular satin and sequined gown which was quickly undone by her 2 platinum blonde maids. Then it was down to an authentic corset which was gently loosened at first by the maids, then removed. She ended up in silver pasties and pale undies before dipping into a real, working clawfoot bathtub, filled with water and suds, and proceeded to writhe about in an ecstasy of bathing while using a hand-held shower head to great effect.

In other words, Dita was Dita.

Later on, Marilyn Manson dared a friend of his to get up and harrass the comics in between the acts at which point they challenged the friend to do a bit of juggling. The guy was so lame and drunk that all he could think of saying was, "I had sex in Marilyn Manson's coyfish pond." Everyone just laughed at him and booed him off.

A

Thanks for the Dita update. My wife was dying to see her, but alas it wasn't to be.

The guy was probably a professional cronie. Getting laughed off stage is as good as it gets for idiots like that.
A

great pics VG.

but i don't recognize the golden showers girl?

That's Pee Girl alright. Take a look at these photos. Notice the "art" on her lower legs:

Same tatoos.

Now Brunette (on floor) at Tease-o-Rama:

Atomic.....pardon me for being so neanderthal............but who is pee-girl, why is she nicknamed pee-girl, and where are the pics of this pee-girl?? Oh! And I'm assuming it's p-e-e and not p-e-a as in Andersons brand pea soup?

I

What a weekend .... much of the weekend went by in a glassy haze, as there was plenty of glitter, glamour, and much beauty that glimmered in the night.

I should state that Catherine D'Lish was much better on the first Friday evening, but it was nice to hear her sing, in a very Julie London-like fashion, on Saturday. I was as equally impressed as Vintagegirl with Chicago's Lavender Cabaret, and don't forget that the Wau Wau Sister's 'Sister Christine' routine also featured a bit of stigmata. There were plenty of high moments that more than made up for some of the weaker acts.

Directly across the street from Sunday's Tease-O events was a flea market, and there I found a framed print of the 'Don the Beachcomber' map of the Pacific .... the same one on page 68 of the BOT. Probably a repro, but that was perhaps my favorite image in the book for this Geography major.

I was able to make it over to Tiki Ti on Thursday evening - I think I had four drinks there, one of them I had served in the take-home Tiki Farm 'Giant Ku' mug. Earlier I had finally bought a Sven 'Book of Tiki' mug from WACKO, so now I even have more reasons to drink at home. Plans to visit Disneyland were altered, and instead a friend and me drove down to Sam's Seafood on Monday afternoon, and almost left without discovering the back rooms where the shows are held. I was a bit mystified though as to how a drink with the manly 'Rum Barrel' name can be served in a tall, stemmed, and more dainty fluted hurricane type glass. Sam's was impressive though, and does deserve its 4 tiki rating.

I also made it to Oceanic Arts, where I purchased both a Volcano Bowl, and a 4 foot long wood carving (a hunter standing in a canoe, hunting a shark) that is currently being shipped home, as I await nervously, wondering if I packed it well enough.

On my final afternoon I was able to eat at both Pink's hot dog stand and L.A.'s airport's 'Encounter' restaurant, and later viewed the airport security people as they opened my luggage, in their quest to discover exactly that odd-shaped item was - evidently they don't x-ray many ceramic volcano bowls.

The trip also included a few martinis at the Dresden Room while Marty and Elayne performed, some thriftin (a LP of "Savage! - Tihati's South Seas Spectacular", some old beach beauties type drinking glasses), a viewing of 'Kill Bill', and brief meetings with several Tiki Centralites.

All in all, a good trip. It was a good combination of Tiki and Burlesque, and my only regret is that I wish I could remember more of what all happened, and that I wasn't able to spend more time talking with more of the tiki central people.

Vern

...who is pee-girl...?

If I told you She would have to Pee on you!

It's a secret revealed only to "Tiki Socialites". If you ever reach that exalted level your eyes will be opened in a rite involving a certain specialty drink sold by

Being that she was onstage for the Casino Royale portion of a legendary event called Mondo Tiki, I think the name Pee Girl is quite fitting for a Bond villainess.

Hmmm....

James Bond = The Man With The Golden Gun.

Pee Girl = The Girl With The Golden Showers(?)

How's about Ivanka Tekaleek.

I wish I knew that so many Tiki-Centralites were into burlesque! I performed on Saturday night with Fisherman's Famous Burlesque at Tease-O-Rama. I couldn't catch much of the Lavender's performance as I was backstage setting up, but every few minutes I'd see one of the girls dash behind the curtain for a quick costume change! Anyway, I wish I would have known that there were going to be some Tiki heads out there. I would have invited you all to our Tiki shows up in Santa Barbara and Solvang the week before... Glad to hear the positive responses to T.O.R.

Tikidrummer

Too bad we missed SB show. I knowI and a few TC peeps would have made it .

Were you the fellow playing the log?

That was Brian "The Fisherman" Lease. He's the vibraphonist and producer of Fisherman's Famous Burlesque. I just played the drums during our performance with Dirty Martini, Harvest Moon, and The World Famous Pontani Sisters...

Atomic......It is a life goal to achieve the Tiki Socialite status you speak of. Something tells me that your spanish phrase has something to do with that honored drink and some pee from "pee-girl".

ps tikidrummer..............Drummers rule the world!! :)

I had a great time at the TOR. The acts were great. I enjoyed Ginger Goldmine's Bird in a Cage act, fantastic costume and props! I also enjoyed the synchronized and beautiful performance by the Harlem Shakes. White flowing feathers against mocha skin--really spectacular.

I must admit that after standing in 4" heels for almost 5 hours my dogs were barking. I missed Dita's performance, but I have been fortunate enough to catch some of her acts before.

I did take the tassel twirling class. About 40 bare-chested women, jumping and bouncing, all trying to twirl to the right, to the left, clock-wise and counter-clockwise, it was pretty fun. One woman took to it immediately and at one point she had both arms raised high, twirling her tassels at lightning speed, all while laughing like a banshee. (what a visual huh?) She had us in hysterics. I'd give myself an "A" for effort, but alas, I could only get my tassels to swing like a pendulum. Oh well, practice makes perfect.

Johnny,

It's true: drummers do run the world. In fact, we have the ability to change the speed at which the world spins...
