New beatnik book?

Pages: 1 11 replies

As if I needed more evidence that I was losing my mind, I recently visited a website that had a huge article on a new book of beatnik-inspired illustrations by Shag, Tim Biskup, etc., and now I can't find it. I've tried every search method I can think of, but can't find any mention of said book.

Does anyone know of such a book, or is this yet another of those green tea-induced hallucinations?

It hasn't come out yet. I think I heard about this book on Otto's Tiki News mailing list and he said it was coming out soon, like this Winter. It's going to be more than just artwork, it's the whole story of the media portrayal of the beatnik (vs. the oft told story of the Beats that inspired them).

Here's the link. The limited edition hardback won't be avaiable until December but the softback is avaiable now. At least that's what Outre said when I called them last week.

It's available from Outre gallery.

Thanks folks; I knew that one of you would know about this. Looks like a great book.

Honorable Mention to Rick Ocasek in "Hairspray."

Follow the links to the Bob Denver site - GREAT stuff on Maynard G. Krebs (e.g., the "G." stands for "Walter"). You can enter your own Beatnik poetry in Maynard's Coffee House.

("Do-obie! Wants a gal who's dreamy, Dobie! Wants a gal who's creamy, D0bie! Wants a gal to call his Ooooown!"....... um, "creamy"?)

Geets Romo is our favorite Beatnik ever. And I don't mean the radio DJ.

I received my book over the weekend and it's great reading! Numerous color pictures throughout the book and very informative reading. A good book to read during these cold winter nights. I strongly recommend buying a copy if you haven't already.

It's goin' on my Christmas list right now...just below the Cajon Tiki drums! BTW both those beatnik sites are really cool. I'll have to take a closer look later.
