Directed by Irvine Foundation Fellow Patrick Makuakane, this company has been hailed for its commitment to the traditions of Hawaii while creating a new look for hula - hula mua. This distinctive new style builds on the traditional foundations of the dance but is danced to a full range of non-traditional music forms, from opera to techno. This is a "not-to-be-missed" program and will open with a presentation of the traditional hula and chant by one of Los Angeles' leading Halaus, Hula Halau O Kamuela Elau.
