Erik's drive-in in San Rafael, CA demolished!

I stopped in downtown San Rafael today (where they filmed the cruising scenes in American Graffiti) and was shocked to find a fenced-off lot where Erik's drive-in restaurant used to stand. This was an original drive-in with car hops still in use until recently. I don't know it's history but it looked like it may have been an A&W or Mel's at one time. I wish I had a picture to share but I don't - I'll keep looking for more info. I didn't go there very often and now I wish I could go one more time.

If i'm not mistaken there is an reproduction of the famous drive-in at Universal studios. Though not as good as the original i would imagine.
If i'm ever in the area, i'll drag ya :)

PS: BFD is not "big f-in deal" it's my new accronym to hopefully skirt past the crude joke rule.
