Palm Springs - sights?

Pages: 1 8 replies

I'm going to Palm Springs for the first time. (driving from L.A.)

Would love to get some suggestions on places to check out along the way and in/around the Palm Springs area that are cool and tiki-related. What are some must-see attractions? And must-do activities?

P.S. we're staying at the Caliente Tropics. :)

When you get to the Tropics, ask at the front desk if they have a copy of the Tiki or Modern tour, self guided tours of the PS area for notable Tiki and mid-century sites.

Next door from Caliente Tropics is a Travel Lodge Hotel. In the front lobby is a plasic water cooler that is a great sight when your in the middle of a barren desert! Choose the blue lever on the right and the water comes out chilled! refreshing.....

...plastic water cooler?

This is GREAT!!! Thanks so much! ...must get a copy of that map!

Exactly when are you going? I'll be at the Tropics for a couple of nights in mid-January. (thanks Otto!)

O

We too are going to the Caliente Tropics in January (the 2nd & 3rd). If anyone else is going, maybe we can get together at the Reef bar.

Hi,
Come visit us at our two M Modern Gallery locations in downtown Palm Springs (400 & 448 N. Palm Canyon). You can check out the Shag prints we up for the next couple of weeks. Their may even be a few Artist Proofs still available.

Also, we still have some Von Franco and Pizz merchandise from the "It's All About the Tiki" show at the gallery for sale. We'll offer 20% off for TC members during the month of January. You will have to come in person though to pick these up as we will not offer this deal on items shipped at this time. Also, quantities are limited to those items in stock at the gallery.

Other good restaunts to try while in Palm Springs are:

Kalura (Italian) - Downtown
Al Dente (Italian) - Downtown
Capra's (Italian) - Downtown - owned by the late Director Frank Capra's (It's a Wonderfull Life). son Tom Capra. Lots of movie stuff and a real live Oscar (campy stuff).

The Chophouse (Steakhouse) - Downtown
LG's (Steakhouse) - Downtown

Pomme Frites (French) - Downtown

Las Casuelas (Mexican) - Downtown - OK food but great party scene.

Hamburger Mary's - Downtown - Just opened

Thai Bistro (Thai) - Downtown - Beside M Modern Gallery

Johanna's (fine dining) - Near Downtown on Indian Canyon at Arenas - Excellent Food

Spencer's (fine dining) - Near downtown at the famed Palm Springs Tennis Club - Probably the best restaurant in Palm Springs right now - Great Food and Ambiance

Le Valaurus (French Fine Dining) - Near Dowtown with Excellent Food and great atmosphere - Try and get an outdoor table.

For Modern Furniture deals you can check out:
Modern Way
Palm Springs Consignment
Galaxy 500
and many more...

Cool Fashions at Trina Turk - Hot LA designer with awesome vintage looking clothes - If you're not familiar with Trina Turk's clothing, you're not as hip as you think!

Also, There is a new restaurant at the top of the Palm Springs TRAMWAY called Elevations - This is worth it just for the trip up the Tram (you'll rise over 8,000 feet to the top).

HAVE A GREAT TRIP and DO GET A MODCOM MAP (One of the Coolist causes in Palm Springs)!
