Egyptian themed restaurant in Wisconsin

I recently found this postcard of The Pyramid restaurant on Hwy. 33 East of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin:

The good news is it's still open as the Nile Club! Hopefully it hasn't been "renovated".

Hey jab, let's check it out when the weather warms up. It seems like there's a ton of cool places back there that need to be visited. We vacationed in Chicago two years ago (my 1st time there) and it was great! I've lived in SoCal all my life and rarely get out, so I'm like a kid in a candy store when I get the chance to explore strange new worlds.

Road trip!!

I gotta pay off some debt first or they're going to run me out of town. Those bar tabs sure can grow fast! This Spring might be possible but it's more likely in the Fall.

I live only 20 min away from the place. It's quite a landmark. If any of you folks can make it to this area, please support it. We are close to losing another landmark "The Gobbler Resaurant" in Johnson Creek WI, which is one of the best examples of Googie archetecture left in the area. Last I heard, 2 months ago someone wanted to turn it into a 60's style Go-Go bar, but the town voted it down. There was a hotel that went with the restaurant, but sadly it was burned down by the local fire deparment after it was left abandoned for a few years. I felt sick when I heard the news. Here's a couple pics of the restaurant.

We have a lot of great weird stuff around here, but like most places it's vanishing fast.

Let me know if any of you want to check out The Nile Club. I'm in!

Damn Slack, what kinda fire department do you guys have back there!?! It sounds like they've watched Farenheit 451 too many times!

ARRGGHHH! Another place I'll never visit now. James Lileks' "Institute of Offical Cheer" has a great section on "The Gobbler" ("The Grooviest Motel In Wisconsin"):

Ranks up there with his "Story Of Bread":
