Directions to the famous Las Vegas sign?

I've always missed it. Where is it?

Is it close enough to the airport to take a taxi and can it be seen clearly at night, or should I go during the day?

Both. You can see it at night and by day. It is on the South end of The Strip, just past The Mandalay Bay & Luxor, but before you see the planes at McCarran Airport right in the middle of the center divider.

Here is a view "LOOKING" North with The Mandalay Bay on the left side. The heart of the strip is straight ahead from this view:

Hi,

From the airport, take the 215 beltway north, then exit at Las Vegas Blvd. (The Strip).

Turn right and proceed toward the hotels in the distance and you will find the sign before you get to any of the big resorts, right in the middle of the median.

The authorities are very lax about bothering people who want to stop and be in a pic!
