Have you heard of this movie : "last of the pagans" ??
It released in 1935, directed by Richard Thorpe. The story is largely inspired by Taipi (Herman Melville novel), featuring 2 lovers (actors Mala and Lotus) separated by the colons who used to stole polynesians to work on fields and mine.
The film is really great, enterely shoot in French Polynesia with local actors, great landscapes...
The film was forbidden in Germany and censured in France, because of the way the whites are represented.

Sounds great, I'll have to seek it out. There was also a film version of Melville's "Typee" from 1958 called "Enchanted Island' with Dana Andrews and Jane Powell (which I still need to see!)

I keep hearing rumours of a "Typee" remake but have heard nothing concrete.

If you find a copy, please don't keep it secret. Sounds like an intriguing film...
