Friend needs advise on Hawaiian Holiday

Want advice on a Hawaiian vacation.
I have a few questions.

What Island do you recommend ?
I'm really looking for something with that "old Hawaii" feel, by that i
mean, 50's 60's, Polynesian Pop...
What do you recommend for Hotels, vacation packages etc ? naturally,
price is always an issue. but I'd like something that with that real
50's Polynesia feel, as opposed to a corporate big resort vibe.

Anyway, if you can steer me in a good direction, I'd really appreciate
it.
