Thought I would post this for the fez lovers on the site, now you can take your favorite Tiki fabric and see what you can make of it. Maybe enough people will do it and we could have a Best Fez contest at Hukilau, like the Tiny Bikini Contest in Vegas, well, maybe not like that. Still have not gotten the pictures of those two out of my hed yet.

Ok here is a funky fez for someone out there to buy and wear that does not have someone to sew for them.

My sister just found a great Fez at a garage sale. And no, she won't give it to me. :x

I got mine from Fez. My Great uncle brought it back when he was in the Navy.

Just out of curiosity: How does the fez fit into tiki culture and what does Shag have against Shriners?

Has anyone considered becoming a Mason/Shriner? The fez comes with the turf. Just wondering.

These are probably not the best questions to be asking on my first post.

T

Welcome to the Tiki Central first of all, and the fez also has some roots in the lounge culture. Plus in leopard print they make a great party hat. :) But I do not know what you mean by Shag, what is that in reference too?

Well, Shag's "Unchecked Anger of Alf Charles" shows them fighting. That's not gonna happen. And, he generally shows 'em in a bad light. That is to say: Mean, angry or drunk. Drunk, I buy.

And thank you for the welcome. This place is great!

I see them in antique stores all the time, but I have not bit yet. They are just too expensive and I have a huge head so they rarely fit. I have belonged to some of "the funny hat clubs" but the shriner funny hats I never wore. I wore much worse, or better as your taste dictates.

T

Swanky that is the whole idea behind this post, find some "swank" material, find a wahine that can sew, bribe her with dinner, have her measure said "huge head" and there you go you are now a offical member of the hat club. Besides you are Big Kahuna of Hukilau after enough drinks at the Mai Kai you will not even notice that you have a silly hat on.

We could send a double agent to a Shriners Club for some inside info, there must be some place that sells them in bulk for a discount rate

I think the fez is connected to tiki cuz
in the old days the shriners (fez wearing
fraternity) would party at tiki bars
during their conventions! the shriners
are dudes who built a fantasy world of their
own through connections with desert motif...
swords...and shrines....tikifiles build
their fantasy world around island decor...
tiki gods...and jungle stuff...like monkeys
wearing fez. this sounds too confusing..
i need to make a drink
