It's eucalyptus...

Anyone know something about eucalyptus? The stump that will be arriving at my house today comes from one of those 'silver dollar' eucalyptus trees. Are they similar to anything for familiar like pine or maple...?

This doesn't answer your question but,
here's a picture of one.

It's tuff to carve but the wood looks good.

Tahitiki is right, it is Hard wood and tough to carve. Also if you carve it when it is Wet, it is fairly soft, but WIL Split wide open. You need to let it dry out so it won't split, then it gets hard.
However it is Beautiful wood!!

It's gonna be some time before I feel ready to tackle a 7' tiki, so I'll jus slather on some prune seal and leave 'er to sit a spell. Meanwhile, I used a spoke shave to remove the bark from a 2' section of branch (1.5" dia). Just want to see what happens as it dries. Probably will split, huh?

I am so busy with work & da lil' tikis these days...bear with me I will 'make' the time to carve here real soon.

Thanks for the info Tahitiki & BenZ...awesome shot of a euc. UB! Iz it yours?
