Any info on these mugs? ebay but not really...

Anyone recognize these mugs and have more info on them? Sorry if it's an easy answer but I don't recall seeing this design. I'm kind of pissed that I didn't even bid on them. They are awesome tiki mugs.

They are most likely vintage, but you can't be sure since they are from a home ceramics class mold. They might be from a Duncan mold, but there was also a commercially produced figure by Napco with the same face (I'll see if I have a pic of ours). You also see that design as a wall plaque– again one of a set of molds for hobbyists to create and decorate their own tikis. Still a cool design and a nice set of mugs. I'm kinda' pissed you did not bid on them too. Then I could have traded you for one.

Well now I'm doubly pissed. The thought of using Tiki Quest as a sort of catalog is very appealing to me. :)

By the way, if no one else has yet told you, that plastic plate on the top left of pg 162 is made by Paul Marshall. I've got one that still has the sticker on the back: "Paul Marshall Made in Japan."

My advise is to completely disregard the whole idea of market value when buying Tiki mugs and just pay what it's worth to you. The whole rarity=excellence arguement does my head in.

Those who buy Tiki stuff in the hope the value might go up and they can cash in miss the whole damn point of Tiki anyway.

Errr...I wasn't asking anything about the value or future value of the mugs. I just wanted to know a little something about them because I've got a ceramic piece that seems to use the same design motif (sort of). I think it's a great design and now that they're gone I lust for them! If you think I'm into tiki for investment purposes then you're barking up the wrong tree. I'm the first mofo scrambling to Target/Dollar Tree/TJ Maxx/Spencers etc to get my tiki fix!

And a word to investors/speculators: The day I got into Tiki was the day your dreams for your collection funding your kid's college education were crushed. Anything I get interested in becomes a money loser! Bank on it. The tiki market's gonna crash soon so cash in your chips now! Anyone interested in some Sub Pop singles for cheap?? :wink:
