Ah, good point. I'm sure if you look at a real margarita it probably contains lime juice, and not sweet and sour.

If you use margarita mix for a margarita, all you're adding is the tequila. If you are using sweet and sour, you are adding tequila and triple sec. So the two should be very similar. I suppose the best drink would be made with fresh lime juice to avoid the whole issue.
