Have not been to the new TV's in San Francisco, but I am sorry to say Marian and I went to TV's in Emeryville last month (yes, we snuck in and out of town)and it was far from the fantastic experience I have had in Chicago and Atlanta.
We had the same inattentive service mentioned earlier, the food was average and the bartender came across as wanting to be in law school instead of mixing the world's most elegant potions. Not only that but he didn't know who Don the Beachcomber was, or what the hassle was about with Vic. (Seems like all Vics bartenders should be forced to go to school on that topic.)
All-in-all, the experience was far closer to Orlando's Wai-Tiki than I care to remember. On the other hand we had two fantastic evenings at the Tonga Room, which I have repeatedly seen bashed on TC. Maybe we just picked the wrong night at Vics and the right nights at the Tonga. A gang of Chinese Lion Dancer's were covorting around Vic's the night we were there and the restaurant was packed with well-to-doers talking loud and acting pushy. Uugh.

In all fairness, however, having a one night stand with any tiki bar probably isn't the right way to evaluate it. It might even be immoral.
