The first reviews for the DC Arena Stage production of 'South Pacific' have appeared in the Washington Post, and they are very favorable. I'm providing links to two reviews - they are well worth reading for many reasons, including the insight on how parts of Michener's stories were tamed down for the musical, and also for how our views towards race differences have changed in the last 50 years. No mention of tikis, but this particular production has added a ritual dance for the islanders, based on dance movements from Fiji and Tonga. The two reviews can be found here ... An evening of tiki related events, including the 'South Pacific' performance and a newly added viewing of tiki art, is planned for January 25th (tickets still available - see the 'DC South Pacific' heading under the tiki events category) Vern |
