Starting Tropical Garden, Could Use Your Help

The only problem is, I suck at picking the right kind of plants, bushes, trees, etc. If any one is a landscape designer or a "starving student" of landscape design we would appreciate the help. We are in the LA area in Burbank CA. We don't have alot of money to spend but we do have some! I would like to add alot of tropical type plants with lots of color. Please email me if you have any way of helping us. I will include some pics of the existing yard tommorrow when it is light out. Aloha!
