Events there are rare these days, it's well worth seeing the venue as well as the entertainment. The Waldorf is in the middle of nowhere, nothing within walking disitance of it. I'm not sure about the hotel itself (maybe I'll go have a look if anyone's interested). I'd definitely suggest staying in or around the downtown area.
