octane (spring break carvings) 3/26/06 - Tiki Carving

Sorry i have not been on the site much, but i have been busy carvingand out of town alot. in fact i'm going to post these pictures and head out of town again for a little while. this is a Moai, with a full body. I carved him out of either rose wood or Purple heart wood. I'm not sure which wood it is, i ordered the rose wood, but the block i got had the code for purple heart, either way it has a nice color. itis great i ordered all this fancy wood from Lee valley, it for lathes, so they are small like 2X2X12. The tiki is about 10 inches tall, and only has one coat of poly on it. I hope to add more when i get back, but thought i would post some pictures before i left.
