why must you abbreviate everything you say?

barbie = barbeque
arvo = afternoon
you right? = are you alright?
ute = utility ve'hick'le
etc etc etc etc....

and what the hell does "struuuuuth" mean anyway.. ?!

(I just remembered that one from my boarding school days spent in Orange, NSW.. and no, I don't know why I ended up there either)
