I've heard that they went through about sixteen Shelby GT 500 Mustangs (replicars thank God) in the remake of Gone In 60 Seconds. Every car had a special purpose, some for interior shots, some for exterior still, driving, crashing shots, etc. Then if you blow a scene where a car gets destroyed, you have to bring in a fresh one for the re-shoot. You can see how that adds up.
