Oh man, that really sucks, Fil, it sounds like the cliche of bad corporate behaviour:

(Fil's station director:)"You're always at risk of being replaced by another person who'll do it more cheaply or by a show that provides a station a method of ... not having to spend a lot of dough,"

Another example of capitalism devouring it's children. The quality of the content no longer matters in the media, only that someone can deliver the product (or something that looks like it) for less money, so the profits look better.
