In a nutshell: I have personally walked, in 2000 and 2004, right up to the quarry where the ancient rapanui people carved the moai. Hundreds of them are still there, half-carved from the rocks in the side of a volcano. Unles that aliens also made some half-baked moai and left them imbedded in the stone just to fuck with us, then I think the mystery is more or less solved. There was also no slave labor: the moai builders were a revered caste of artisians who's needs were cared for by a society who saw moai building as a top proiority.
