"ps When in doubt, listen to The Jab." Especially just now. That was succinct and sensible!!

AquaZ, you ALWAYS live under someone with a faaantastic home tiki bar. Only the owner's name changes. In any case, you, like, say, Chris Isaak or Conga Paul or that neighbor of yours whose name I forget at the moment...or that other neighbor of yours whose name I forget too, the noirhead guy, are an "old-school-retro-tikiphile". You NEVER have to worry about your tiki cred as far as I'm concerned. Or about any other retro/vintage cred, for that matter. :)

My one thought here is that in any group, a hierarchy inevitably arises. Also, in any group, a 'cool' or 'insider' subgroup evolves, sooner or later. If this stuff is handled well, with humility and kindness, openness to new influences and a general absence of a tiresomely cliqueish mindset, the group continues to grow in a positive way. It's important to point out that problems can reside equally in the attitude of the older members OR the newer ones or anyone in between.

I personally have never had any trouble with a newbie on TC--or anyone on TC for that matter--I never had any guff or meanness from anyone when I WAS a newbie myself, and I love meeting newbies. Period. I hope everyone feels the same.

I am NOT much of a joiner myself, and when in groups I tend to gravitate towards forming specific, intimate friendships, which are then pursued as much or more outside the boundaries of the group as within them. But I will say, this is one of the few groups I've ever encountered where I've found a consistently high level of friendliness and openness. Snottiness or "attitude" are SO very rare! Subgroups are more geographical than anything else, and rivalries, if any, seem amiable and mellow in nature. May it always remain so!!!

And as for Bong, he was always a total gentleman to me, online and in person. But then, I tried to be appropriately friendly and polite to him from day one, which probably helped .

XOX to all, tikivixen
