Surfer, Yeah, that 3-headed frame is really nice. I have gotten a few of those Kohl's items from friends and family. And I've purchased a few too.

You guys may recall that last year I mentioned that Kolhs had some cheap Tiki items; serving tray, little sandwich plates, those sippy drink things... I got most of that just because it had a tiki on it and it was not something that, if destroyed, I would cry over. I did, however, wait for it to go on sale.

Vic said, "If the Masses that we all deride and speak so poorly of had remained googoo over Tiki the Kahiki, in Columbus, would Still Be Open!"
You know, Vic, you're probably right, but I for one - being a big Kahiki fan since I can remember and having just eaten there 2 months before closing - had no idea that they were closing or in trouble. (Grant it that we went in the afternoon, but there was still a healthy crowd in that area of town on a weekday afternoon.)
My whole family was shocked and we did not learn about it until we saw it on the news here in Dayton. By then, it was too late.

Too bad for me that I had not found you guys before then. I thought I was the only crazy person with this tiki-collecting disease.

I don't really mind the tiki going mainstream. I don't like that it may draw more or new attention to our collecting hobby. And a hobby, such as ours, is dependant upon the availability of the 'vintage' stuff.

Call me selfish, but this obsession is NOT a church. I don't invite people to love tiki / Polynesian culture / artifacts the way I do. To me, it's more competition.

But, I don't mind new stuff becomming available in the mainstream because, it allows 'new blood' to flow in my collection.

And, if I had children, I honestly would like to dress them up in little Hawaiian shirts or a bathing suit with a grass skirt on it. I would hope that my hobby would appeal to them as well - as do many parents with their own hobies; be it trains, dolls, cars or sports.

And you're certainly right about the number of posts & members to TC. I had no idea that there were so many folks into this before a couple of years ago. And I, like many others, have been collecting and had the interest since childhood.
