Suz, Google says that Joy Island in Bayside's still there:

If you're from that area, do you remember the Baldi Bakery? I miss their sfogliatelle.

I didn't live in the area, but my boyfriend at the time did, so I was there quite a bit. I think that I have Joy Island to blame (in part)for my tiki fixation. It was certainly the first place I ever had a scorpion bowl and/or a flaming drink.. or two.

I do remember a good bakery...not the name though. Joy Island was over by the Hebrew National deli and Bayside Appetizers.

Thank you for letting me know! - next time I am on the East Coast visiting family I am going to have to make a side trip and see how the place has held up.
