Finky, He is looking super cool. You will find that carving walnut varies from piece to piece depending on where on the tree the piece came from and how it was cured. I have some that is soft as Mahogany and some hard asnails. SOme with straight palin grain and some spectacular. Don't judge the whole tree by one branch! Just keep on carving your marvelous tikis!
