True, Poly-pop is not a real representation of Polynesian culture but rather a reflection of our society responding to the Polynesian culture. The iconography of poly-pop reflects the symbology of our culture, we feel drawn to drinking from head shaped mugs because we are playing at being "headhunters" but we are not drinking from a head to acquire the mana of the deceased, as the in the "headhunters" culture. Rather we drink from the head because of the symbology of the severed head in our culture.
