WHAT A BLAST! The Tiki Central room singalong was the funnest experience I had in a long time. And skinnydipping afterwards was worth it. It's all b.s. that it endangered the next year's event:
Otto and I met with Casey afterwards to talk about what we learned, and here's the good news: Otto will be in charge of event organization next year, so no restriction on day passes and attendance from other motel guests! We are planning to move next year's Tiki Oasis up to May, to avoid the heat (which will place it in season and make it a slightly higher rate, unfortunately). But that way the overflow can go to the nearby L'Horizon Hotel, a neat midcentury modern bungalow hotel which was already closed this time for off-season. Vendors will be able to already set up on Friday, to allow people to browse, and the bar situation will also be improved.
I hope everybody had as great a time as I did and it will keep getting better each year!
