I just spent way too much time trying to write up a post that explains why this movie is something people might be interested in, and the words weren't coming -- it's a weird film. So, I'll settle for this: I have been dying to see it again ever since catching a screening of it a couple of years ago, but it's only been available as a trimmed-down out-of-print DVD going for over a hundred dollars. Just a few weeks ago, it was released on a new improved DVD, restored to a length of just over 2 hours (still a half-hour shy of its original running length, but this is the print that I saw in the theater), for about 35 bucks. We watched it again last night, and I still love it.

If you're a fan of midcentury modern and futurism, this movie will particularly appeal to you. It's sort of at the direct opposite end of Polynesian Pop -- a great depiction of what Tiki places were an escape from. And it's got some great, subtly funny gags.
