They will hold something as light as mugs just fine that way, and the brackets are then hidden either behind the mugs or up where you can't see them. It makes for a much cleaner look. If needed, I chisel out a little bit of wood so the brackets are recessed and don't get in the way of mugs.

They will hold something as light as mugs just fine that way, and the brackets are then hidden either behind the mugs or up where you can't see them. It makes for a much cleaner look.
