Cal Tjader was one of the first people to mix jazz and Latin music.
He took a lot of heat for it early on, because this sort of fusion was frowned upon by jazz purists.

Now, his Soul Sauce record (and it's title track) are classics.

He also did two rarely discussed Exotica records, called Several Shades of Jade and Breeze From The East. You can get both of them on one CD if you poke around.
