Hi Kids, First of all, dont get pissed at me, cause I dont want to get in the middle of an argument. BUT..... Last Saturday was the last class of the quarter for my museum studies class. We had a Lawyer talk to the class and we covered all these same issues. Copyright, public domain, "borrowing" etc. I asked some very specific questions about these issues. so here goes, I'm just going off the top of my head,I can refer to my notes if anyone wants a certain answer.

Public domain is actually a specific date, anything before this date becomes public domain( I will have to look up the exact date)

copyright is established at conception, but is recommended that you register anything you want coypewritten.

Mailing something to yourself as copyright is a myth

the concept of borrowing ideas to create new art is acceptable and a reality, where it becomes a new creation and not a copy is when something new gets added, like it has a new meaning or makes a different statement

I have the email address of the lawyer, shes pretty cool, and deals specifically in law about art and artists. If any one want the info, PM me
dawn
