2W, I also endorse Pepe. Just past downtown Rosarito on the old road (left side) you'll find his shop and home - Pepe's Tikis and Sea Shells. He's a great old guy who we are really fond of. He custom carved a tiki for us and if you show him a picture of what you want, he can carve just about anything at a fraction of what you would pay for comparable work. There's a lot of demand for his work (he contracts with some of the So Cal tiki shops -- shhh, it's a secret!) and while you will see many of his works, they are sometimes already committed to someone else. With all the work he has going, it usually takes him 2-3 weeks to custom carve but if you get lucky he will have some tikis available. A little further down the road also on the left side, there's a shop that has really cool GIANT stone tikis about 5 ft. tall and 200 lbs. I've always wanted one but I don't have a car big enough to haul one home! If you make your way down that far, you might as well go have lobsters and margaritas in Puerto Nuevo - our favorite thing to do! Oh yes, and don't forget to bring home some cuban rum! |
