Bamboo Mug Sealant - Other Crafts

I've been only able to find scant information, even on this site, about what sealant (if any) to use when making mugs that will be filled with alcohol and juice? Is there an easy nontoxic sealant that can be found in hardware stores? It probably needs to be somewhat thick, in case there may be small cracks in the bamboo... thanks for any help!
