Here is a 4mm thick "arm" I drilled a 2mm hole into and wrapped the band around sticking the loose ends through, one from each side, managing to tie one overhand knot "In the hole" cutting off the ends and searing them as close as I dared. Then maneuvered the bands to cover the holes. You can still see the ends but not quite as much it also acts to prevent the bands from slipping down the arm. It isn't a Double knot but it seems to be holding fine.

And here is the band all placed back in order and looking as it should.
