I gotta say, everyone here is so full of good ideas, I couldn't help but be inspired to make a floatlight.
I went on eBay and looked at all of the glass floats that were for sale, and I liked the ones from Japan the most. So I combined that look with the classic look and came up with this...

It started as a 10" light globe that I bought at a thrift store for a buck. I fitted a standard light fixture into it and made a watertight cap to seal off the open end. (I plan to hang this one outside)I have a 25 watt, flame textured bulb in there now.
The tying only took about an hour,I know it's still a little funky- but I can adjust it. I had to dye the cotton washline rope to a dark green-brown first, I didn't want it to be glaring white.

I'd love to hear your comments!
