I have to imagine slapbass, that a big part of the problem you had was when you went there. Late on a weekend night is when it is loud, crowded and tending towards parties and drinking, and not eating and relaxing/enjoying.

I think the lesson is that maybe you want to go to Sam's at a quieter time like Sven did if you want to enjoy it the way we all here do.

This is really true for a lot of tiki bars. Wednesday or Thursday during Happy Hour is your time to go and Friday and Saturday nights are to be avoided. As much as the owners like them, loud crowds ruin a tiki bar. And, rap and other forms of music may come in on those nights to draw in more people and pay the bills...
