The Wall Street Journal has a writer named Eric Felten who has written a couple of good articles on tiki drinks. The latest one features the Zombie, and gives a considerable history of Don the Beachcomber, Trader Vic, and the New York based Monte Proser.

Beach Bum Berry also get a good mention, as the article mentions both his 'Intoxica' and 'Sippin Safari' books.

My favorite part of the article though, was how Felten verbalized artist Paul Gauguin's name, to derive a 'leave everything behind, and travel in paradise' meaning. Used in context .... "After Gauguining his way around the Pacific, he settled in Hollywood in time to open his first bar."

The full Zombie article can be found here .....

Eric Felten's previous article on the mai-tai can be found here ...

There are many other good articles about cocktails on the WSJ website - just do a search for 'Felten' and many will appear.
