I've been on Ebay nearly 10 years now and I grew tired of the "snipe" a long time ago. I am often the first bidder on the items I want but hardly ever win, I bid what I'll pay and that's it. It has become more rewarding to find out a day after an auction has closed that I won for what I'd pay or less (like getting a Munktiki for opening bid price) than scheduling time on the PC to get that last minute bid in and end up disappointed. I've been out bid by as little buck or two on these CAL mugs and I'm okay with that, he offers the regular editions at a very reasonable price, so if I ever end up with a special edition it will be just that, a special bonus.
