It IS a steel guitar, that's the 'Generic' name for the instrument, He Plays it Hawaiian "Style", i.e. as opposed to 'Slide' players, who generally play Blues or Rock. The term Hawaiian Guitar is generally accepted worldwide to mean the instrument we're discussing, the resurgence in "Slack Key" and the insistence of a lot of the players to call it Hawaiian Guitar is somewhat muddying the water so to speak.
