Hi everyone...just stumbled on this site searching for information on Ralph "Burke" Tyree. This is one of the few places where he seems to be known. I have six of his paintings. Three are animals on black velvet which my mother purchased (a northern owl, a cuckoo, and a dwarf lemur). Two are oil on canvas (?) which were probably painted in the late 1940's. These were both wedding gifts from the artist to my parents. The last is a nude Samoan girl on black velvet. This was given to my father as a loan from the artist in support of an art show. I believe that was in the early 60's. Hard to remember as I was just a kid and the picture was basically stored out of sight...and out of the mind of my two brothers and I. Anyway I like this site as it is interesting to read about the local history of where I grew up (near Stockton and Modesto).
