Thanks Guys, the wood is Douglas Fir which was a lot easier to use, but still bloody heavy. The insides are fibreglassed and painted with a foodsafe resin, unfortunately it only comes in Grey and won't hold any more pigment so I can't change the colour.
Johnny,, I've done 4 of them now and although I've sussed out a few tricks to speed up the process they are still one of the hardest things to carve, but I still want to try a full sized one at some point.
