That guy would have gotten cut off from land access - if he wasn't roasted, he would have been trapped with no water, in full sight of onlookers and news cameras. There would be incredible pressure to save him and some poor bastards from the fire department or Army would have had to risk their lives flying a helicopter into that heat and gasses.
