The tiki hut was lacking, but hell "why not just keep adding stuff?" I don't think that the typical killer tiki bar was put together over night.

I also happen to think that while surfing may not be tiki, it is the sport of Hawaiian Royalty, and that makes it cool in my book!

Good points KT,

Rome wasn't built in a day and neither were 99.9999834% of all tiki bars.

To me, a tiki bar is also about gathering mementos over time to serve as a collection of the lifestyle we call tiki. Fun little items to look at and remember the feeling of aloha whilst sipping a Trader Vic's Grog.

And yes, surfing may not be tiki, but besides being the sport of Hawaiian royalty, the surfing lifestyle (not Pottery Barn's version) and the aloha spirit are inextricable. It was the surfers during the 60's that popularized tiki in the form of pendants and pop culture items.

Now, live aloha or I'll kill you! (I still think that's funny)
