The Awful-Awful burger is also available at the various coffee shops in the Nugget in Sparks. Same burger as the diner downtown. Still, the old downtown Nugget is worth a look as it's old and seedy in a good way - you can pretend your a private eye in an old movie staying up all night looking for leads so you stop in for a coffee and a hamburger sandwich. The counter is small and the seats are often all taken (it was when I was there). The oyster bar in the Sparks Nugget is a must! They make these incredible oyster stews (crab and clams too) and everything is real fresh, and much cheaper than it is in San Francisco. I couldn't believe it existed in Reno until I went for myself. I have also heard good things about the steakhouse at the Nugget but have not tried it. Next time I'll skip the hit or miss food at Trader Dick's and have a steak instead. |
