This is an extremely sought-after hospitality drink, and clocking in at 106 proof, you almost don't care how bad it tastes. At least to us. It may be that it's an acquired taste, or that the Chinese palate is just wired for this kind of flavor. I don't know; when the Professah called from a liquor store in HI to say that they had it there, I asked him to pick one up for me. It has a very earthy, bitter taste, which makes sense because it is aged in huge ceramic vases.
