I'm 28. I grew up with parents who had 40's-60's advertisements/games/radios/cars/ around all the time. My Dad took me to baseball games in his '56 Chevy Wagon. Our only library consisted of National Geographics from the 40's -60's which showed me the world through an idealistic kodachrome utopia, which I always wanted to live in. I think the majority of us into Tiki see the amazing illustrations, architecture, music, drinks, and overall design from the world created mid century, and we do what we can to reclaim or reenact those images. The imagery and lifestyle portrayed from those vintage ads are so iconic that anyone with a vintage interest, creative imagination, and positive outlook will be sucked into the world of Tiki.

I don't think a lot of people have had these experiences or whatever experiences we've had to gravitate us to Tiki, no matter what age.

When anyone at any age, with a little imagination experiences the magic of a dimly lit room with fish float lighting, thatched walls and ceiling, rich lacquered bamboo trim, carefully twined planks, and aged pieces of driftwood, they won't even have to see a tiki, drink a mai tai, wear a tapa shirt, or listen to Martin Denny to be hooked. Add in the tiki, mai tai, tapa shirt, and exotica and they'll be addicted.... like all of us!
