The most common tiki drinks are not necessarily the best examples of the era. It's debatable whether drinks that became popular before the Polynesian Pop craze, such as the daquiri, Singapore Sling, & Planter's Punch, are tiki drinks. I would say that anything invented by Don the Beachcomber or Trader Vic are tiki drinks even though they didn't serve drinks in tiki mugs for years after they invented what we call the tiki bar. The Pina Colada is very common but seems more associated with Caribbean tropical style than with tiki. So, here's a top 5 that represents the most classic tiki drinks of the post Don/Vic era: I'm sure this list will be hotly contested by others. Bring it on! _ _ [ Edited by: thejab on 2003-06-16 18:08 ] |
