It also sounds like they don't want to run the risk of accepting large groups as that could be quite impossible for them if they would need to cancel large group blocks of reservations with deposits should they start a renovation at an undetermined date. You are correct, everyone at the hotel (the Clipper) is saying different things or doesn't know the real deal, but I am sure you have the inside track having successfully produced so many Hukilau events there.
