I think musicians just like everyone else need something new after awhile..It can get quite boring playing the same shows and people always want to see musicians they know play something new and different..I noticed squid plays different styles weather it be exotica with T.O. or some staight ahead jazz..
As musicians its really easy to go along playing to pretty much the same crowd for an extended period of time and start to lose intrest..You need something new and fresh to keep ya going..
As far as the surf shows I would think you would get a big turnout..I dont go to the Purple Orchid cuz I know I cant control my alcohol consumption with a cool bar and a cool band at the same time..Long Beach is way to far to "chance it"..
Hell I ve even gone with the so called designated driver and that has yet to work..
Maybe I need new friends !!!!
